Driver License
Alabama driver license, commercial driver license, star identification and state non-driver identification cards are renewable at the probate office or online as early as 180 days prior to the expiration date.
Visit Alabama Online Driver License Issuance for online renewals and duplicates that are allowed only once every 8 years. For certain changes to an existing license, CDL, non- driver ID or star ID, you will need to visit the probate office located in the Blount County Courthouse or the Hayden Annex. However, if the CDL is Hazmat endorsed, changes must be made at the state driver license examination office located at 1000 Lincoln Avenue, Oneonta, Alabama. To test for a training permit or a driver license you must also visit the state driver license office located on Lincoln Avenue. If you have questions, you may call the probate office at 205-625-4191 or the state office at 205-625-6868 ext. 3126.
STAR Identification will be required for air travel and to gain entrance to many government buildings beginning October, 2020. STAR ID must be first obtained at the state driver license office at the address listed above. Please watch this important message from Governor Kay Ivey for further details about the STAR ID.
